The old remote has vanished under the sofa cushions again, or the buttons have stopped responding halfway through an evening of viewing. This set from Acoyer keeps a working spare within reach on the shelf.
The package contains two identical infrared remotes built for Roku Series televisions. There is no pairing step and nothing to program: fit two AAA batteries into each handset and the remote is ready. Batteries and a printed manual are not supplied. Four dedicated app keys sit on the face for Disney, Netflix, YouTube and Hulu. Range extends to roughly 10 metres, or 30 feet, and testing rated the full button set at more than 160,000 presses. Each remote measures 5.51 x 1.57 x 0.79 inches and weighs 1.76 ounces.
Check the fit before ordering. These work with Roku-branded televisions from TCL, Hisense, Onn, Sharp, Element, Westinghouse, Philips, Insignia, JVC, RCA, Hitachi and Sanyo. They do not operate a Roku Streaming Stick, Roku Box, Ultra, Express, Premiere or Player.
When setting up both remotes, label one with a small piece of tape on the back so family members can tell them apart and return the spare to the same spot each time. A drawer or side table basket near the television works well, since infrared remotes need a direct line of sight to the sensor on the front of the set and do not function reliably from across a room through obstacles. If the remote stops responding, check that nothing is blocking the front of the television and that the batteries are seated firmly, as loose contact is a more common cause of failure than a faulty handset.
Buyers comparing universal-style replacements should confirm that their specific television model number is listed as compatible before purchasing, since Roku-licensed sets from the same brand can vary by year. This format suits households that go through batteries quickly or have young children who handle remotes roughly, as having a second unit on hand avoids the interruption of ordering a replacement under pressure. The compact dimensions mean the handset fits comfortably in smaller hands and stores easily without taking up significant shelf or drawer space.
